Comparing fuel prices and choosing the cheapest petrol station just got much easier.
The communitarian website gasmappers.com represents a new generation of comparators and introduces the possibility for users to look for petrol stations and respective prices within a certain radius around a location, selected by the user.
The price of fuel and its impact on the budget of households and business is a big topic nowadays, especially due to the significant increase of the costs of the basic raw material - oil.

With the liberalisation of fuel prices in Portugal, the choice of the petrol station to fuel the car can be a relevant form of saving money - provided that the motorists have a tool with updated prices and the mechanisms of geographical search.

The project gasmappers.com closes that niche. It is based on a concept of a community of users who are aware that this problem is a common one and thus contribute to the updating of the fuel prices of petrol stations. On the basis of the more than 2500 petrol stations in continental Portugal, gasmappers.com provides a form of fuel price consultancy which is very easy and truly useful.

It is sufficient to write the name of the location, to define a search radius in km and there are already the stations showing up. Want to know where you can buy the cheapest diesel, unleaded 95 or any other? Then just select the type of fuel you want in the respective menu and get the stations in an ordered manner. But gasmappers.com depends as well on the mobilisation of the community. Thus Innovation Point invites users to register and contribute to the actualisation of prices whenever possible.

Another interesting function of gasmappers.com is the possibility for the user, after registration, to select a preferred location – residence or workplace – and then whenever logged in, it will immediately show the most interesting petrol stations.

The project has been launched by Innovation Point, a technological start-up of the DST group. Innovation Point’s mission is to identify talents and incubate innovative ideas with potential. The company headed by Prof. José Mendes, a former vice president of the University of Minho, supports teams developing projects, one of which is thirdlabs. The team, consisting of the young talented university student Rui Marinho and the university graduates Sérgio Castro and Tiago Ribeiro, develop concepts and web 2.0 applications, of which gasmappers.com is the first to be launched on the market.
